Just after Indian webseries ‘Tandav’, Amazon Prime’s ‘Mirzapur’ has also been facing backlash over hurting sentiments of Hindus.
An FIR has been filed against the makers of Mirzapur for allegedly hurting religious sentiments, showing abusive content and illicit relations and spoiling the image of the town in Uttar Pradesh. As per the Indian media, the FIR has named Mirzapur producers Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar and Bhaumik Gondaliya.
The FIR registered on 17th January, petioner alleged that the web series portrays a specific community as linked to crime, shows illicit relationships and incest, slangs and abuses and caste discord. The series also projects the judicial system as “false and polluted,” he said.
Mr. Chaturvedi said he wanted the name of Mirzapur to be removed from the series. “This fight will go on till the name of the Mirzapur web series is changed,” he told the media. The FIR follows the case lodged against Tandav on charges of hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.
Actor Pankaj Tripathi’s action-crime thriller ‘Mirzapur’ revolves around drugs, murders, guns and lawlessness, and showcases mafia dons, local rivalry and crime prevailing in Uttar Pradesh. Its season one was released in 2018 and the second season was released last year.
