Entire India including Pakistan woke up to the tragic news of legendary Bollywood actor Dilip Kumar’s death, who left the world on 7th July.
The 98-years-old legend was one of the last surviving stars of the Hindi film industry’s ‘Golden Age’, which lasted from 1940 to 1960. Professionally known as Dilip Kumar, Mohammed Yusuf Khan was suffering from age-related health complications.
Days after Dilip Kumar’s death, several film industry figures have shared memories and old anecdotes of the late actor. “I think you should go back and study. People from good families should not try to become actors,” Naseeruddin recalled the late actor’s words. The two actors ended up working together in Karma.
Bollywood star Dharmendra Deol, whose heartbreaking picture from Dilip Kumar’s funeral melted everyone heart, in an emotional video dedicated to the late actor saying, “Naukri karta, cycle pe aata jaata, filmi posters mein apni jhalak dekhta, raaton ko jaagta, anhone khwab dekhta, subah uthkar aayne se puchta ‘mai Dilip Kumar ban sakta hun kya?”
Sharing the video, he wrote, “Dosto, Dalip Sahab ki rukhsati par … mere …aap ke runde runde jazbaat ye … uss Azeem fankar… uss neek rooh insaan ko…. ek Shradhanjali hai. woh chale gaye ..un ki yaadein na ja payegi (sic).”
Amitabh Bachchan took to his blog and wrote and recalled narrated an incident where the late veteran actor shouted at the crew for not letting Bachchan rehearse in silence. There was a scene in the movie Shakti where Kumar shoots Amitabh at the airport and holds him while he is dying. When Bachchan was rehearsing for the scene, there was a lot of noise in the background. Big B revealed in the interview that Dilip Kumar shouted at the crew asking them to maintain silence so that he could rehearse in silence. According to Bacchan, it was astonishing that the legendary actor would think so much about his co-star.
Bollywood comedian Johnny Lever shared a story in an Instagram post while sharing throwback pictures with Dilip Kumar and said, “RIP Dilip Sahab I’m fortunate enough to have shared some precious moments with the great Dilip Sahab. I remember he did a small mimicry act for me while we were on tour, he served me Biryani once with his own hands at his home, and many more such beautiful memories…”
