LAHORE: Pakistan’s judoka Shah Hussain Shah has secured a place in this year’s Tokyo Olympics in the -100kg category of judo competition.
The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) said the International Judo Federation (IJF) has informed that Shah has secured his place on continental quota in the Tokyo Games being held from July 23-Aug 8.
Despite missing the last four most important qualifying events due to suffering from COVID-19 and visa issue, Shah was able to maintain his top ranking in Asia after direct qualifiers and finally made it to Tokyo Olympics.
It will be the second time that 28-year-old Shah will be participating in the Olympic Games He also represented Pakistan in Rio 2016 Olympics by qualification. Shah clinched medals in Commonwealth and South Asian Games for Pakistan and is a National Champion since 2017.
POA president retired Lt Gen Syed Arif Hasan has congratulated Shah for securing an Olympic berth for the second consecutive time. He paid tribute to his parents who worked real hard to train and support their son.
With Shah’s inclusion, Pakistan’s participation in athletics, badminton, judo, shooting and swimming events of the Tokyo Olympics has been confirmed. It must be mentioned that Shah Hussain is the son of Hussain Shah, Olympic Bronze medalist of Seoul 1988.
