KARACHI: A young man was shot dead by two unidentified suspects near the Jamia Millia College in Malir, police said.
The victim was identified as Raza Zulfiqar, the son of former Jamaat-e-Islamic UC nazim Muhammad Zulfiqar. The 32-year-old was a resident of Gulfishan Society and was a steel and cement trader in Azimpura area.
He was taken to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. JPMC Emergency Services In-charge Seemin Jamali said Raza was brought dead to the hospital. He sustained a single bullet to his neck that proved fatal
Korangi Senior Superintendent of Police Shahjahan Khan said the incident was a suspected target killing. The assailants used 9mm pistol in the killing, according to the official. The police found two bullet casings at the scene.
SHO Rashid-ur-Rehman said that Raza Zulfiqar was on his way to work from his home when two unidentified armed men on a motorcycle chased him and opened fire indiscriminately.
He said the suspects fired 3 to 4 shots and shot dead the victim before fleeing from the scene of the incident. He said the shells of 9mm pistol will be sent for forensic analysis.
He said that the victim’s father had been a former UC Nazim of Jamaat-e-Islami in the past and the killing of Raza was the result of a targeted killing. Police have also obtained CCTV footage of the incident.
