PM Imran Khan to visit Saudi Arabia tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan will embark on a three-day official visit to Saudi Arabia from tomorrow (Friday) to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries.

The prime minister is visiting on the invitation of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation including the foreign minister and other cabinet members.

 During the visit, the prime minister will hold consultation with the Saudi leadership on all areas of bilateral cooperation including economic, trade, investment, energy, job opportunities for Pakistani workforce and welfare of Pakistani diaspora.

The two sides will also exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest. A number of bilateral agreements/MoUs are expected to be signed during the visit.

The prime minister will also meet the Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Dr Yousef Al-Othaimeen, Secretary General of the World Muslim League Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa and the Imams of the Two Holy Mosques in Makkah and Madinah.  He will also interact with the Pakistani diaspora.

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa is already in Riyadh ahead of the prime minister’s visit where he is holding talks with Saudi civil and military leaders.

A day earlier the army chief met with the Saudi Chief of General Staff emphasised on enhancing cooperation between Pak-Saudi armed forces.

The two military leaders discussed issues of mutual interest as well as the security situation in the region. The meeting also discussed the progress of the Afghan peace process and the issue of further enhancing defense cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

As per ISPR, the Chief of the Saudi Armed Forces expressed gratitude to General Qamar Bajwa for his sentiments and assured him of full cooperation for peace in the region.
