Court extends Khawaja brothers’ judicial remand till 16 Oct

LAHORE: An accountability court has extended the judicial remand of former railway minister Khawaja Saad Rafique and his brother Salman Rafique till 16th October in the Paragon Housing Scandal case.

The accountability court Judge Jawad ul Hassan heard the case while the court also took up Khawaja brothers’ acquittal plea.

As the hearing started that Saad Rafique’s advocate informed the court, “The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials filed reference contrary to facts as the reference is not in compliance with the Companies Act 2017. This reference does not fall within the limits of NAB.”

He further stated, “Court has the authority to impose and terminate the indictment.”

The court then extended the judicial remand of Khawaja Brothers for two more days, reserved its decision over their acquittal.

On 17th April, the involvement of Khawaja Saad Rafique and his brother Khawaja Salman in the Paragon City was exposed.

It also surfaced that both brothers had links with the housing scheme’s chief executive Nadeem Zia.

On 26th April, the NAB approved the filing of a reference against the Khawaja brothers and Nadeem Zia for the alleged corruption in the same case.
