ISLAMABAD: Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan Nawaf Bin Saeed Al-Maliki has assured Pakistan to restore the Umrah flight operation as soon as the prevailing COVID-19 situation got normalized.
The envoy, who called on Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan today, lauded the steps taken by Pakistan to stem the spread of deadly COVID-19 in the country.
During the meeting, they also discussed ways and means to start flight operations from Pakistan to Abha, the capital city of Saudi Arabia’s Aseer Province.
The two sides desired and prayed to overcome the looming threat of virus so that the religious obligation of Hajj could be performed in routine this year.
Ghulam Sarwar said weekly two flights would be operated on that route, which would help support tourism activities and further strengthen the existing ties between the two countries.
The ambassador assured to take necessary measures in that regard. The two sides also held a detailed discussion to further increase bilateral cooperation in the aviation sector.
Ghulam Sarwar Khan congratulated the envoy on the restoration of Saudi Arabia-Qatar ties and welcome the positive developments taking place in the Gulf states terming them ‘welcoming’ for regional peace, prosperity and development.
Earlier, Pakistan had hailed the decision by Saudi Arabia and Qatar to reopen their land, air and sea borders between the countries.
The Foreign Office in a statement said Pakistan also lauded other measures being taken by the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which will contribute to the resolution of outstanding issues between the countries of the organization persisting for almost four years.
Pakistan lauds the positive role played by the Emir of Kuwait towards the resolution of the differences between the countries of the GCC. “His persistent and sincere efforts and cooperation of the GCC countries led to this important and amicable outcome,” it added.
