KHANEWAL: A special polio eradication campaign will commence in Khanewal from January 11 during which over 552,000 children below five years of age will be administered.
Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Abbas Sherazi said 552,000 children will be vaccinated with the lifesaving polio vaccine in the special campaign.\
Chairing a meeting to review arrangements for the anti-polio campaign, here on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner Zaheer Abbas Sherazi stressed upon the participants to educate people about administering anti-polio drops to their children up to five-year-old.
The commissioner directed officials to seek the cooperation of ulema, civil society, teachers and other influential segments of society for awareness of the public.
Likewise, all the polio teams should be given proper training in order to make the campaign successful. The DC also instructed Assistant Commissioners (ACs) concerned to keep inspecting the working of the teams in the field.
Earlier, Prime Minister Imran Khan had a telephonic conversation with American business magnate Bill Gates to discuss the status of the coronavirus and the polio campaign. According to sources, the prime minister apprised him of the significant decline in coronavirus cases in Pakistan.
The prime minister said that the support of the Bill Gates Foundation during the coronavirus epidemic has helped Pakistan. He said that he was effectively countered by the infrastructure set up for polio.
PM Imran Khan said that eradication of polio was the top priority of the government. Bill Gates said that the resumption of the campaign to eradicate polio is encouraging, adding that proper precautions should be taken to prevent corona during the polio campaign.
