ISLAMABAD: Political parties have converged to the federal capital to form a strategy ahead of the Senate elections while the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government has also reached out to its allies.

Governor Sindh Imran Ismail on Tuesday met Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad and discussed matters related to the Senate elections as well as the prevailing political situation in the country. Governor KP Shah Farman and PTI leader Saifullah Niazi were also present in the meeting.

During the meeting, Governor Sindh also discussed the reservation raised by the MQM with the prime minister as the support of the allied party is crucial for the Senate elections. Former President and PPP chairman Asif Ali Zardari had also reached out to the MQM to iron out differences which has raised the stakes higher.

Sources informed the prime minister has given an important task to the governor in view of the Senate polls after an in-depth discussion over political developments. In this regard, the governor will soon start meeting with political stakeholders in Sindh.

The governor discussed the reservations of the MQM which should be accepted or not. The prime minister was informed that apart from a Senate seat, the MQM has been demanding several mega-projects in Karachi including the BRT project, K-IV water project, and other water and power initiatives.

It is pertinent to mention that the PTI has approached its coalition partners in the federal government – MQM-P and PML-F – for a joint strategy against the incumbent Sindh government by the PPP- in Senate elections and by-polls.

Earlier this week, PTI approached the PML-F to discuss a joint strategy for by-polls in the Sindh province and Senate elections. The MQM has hinted at supporting the PTI only if all its demands are met or it could support any other party.
