ISLAMABAD: An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 on the Richter scale struck capital Islamabad and adjoining areas on Wednesday, according to the National Centre for Seismology.
The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 4.2 quake in Pakistan at 10near Battagram, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The earthquake hit in the morning on Wednesday at 10:33 AM local time at a shallow depth of 10 km.
The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
Battagram is located 10 km from the epicentre where the quake should have been felt as light shaking. Weak shaking might have been felt in Baffa located 40 km from the epicenter, Mansehra located 48 km away, Mingora, 52 km away, Muzaffarabad, 62 km away, Abbottabad, Khalabat and Swabi.
