LAHORE: The Punjab government has approved an application to release Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz on parole for five days.
The sub-committee on home affairs of the Punjab government had sent the recommendations to the Punjab chief minister. A meeting of the Punjab cabinet approved the parole application for the PML-N leaders.
The Home Department also sent the statement and requests of the Prisons Department after the recommendations of the Sub-committee on Home Affairs.
PML-N Deputy Secretary-General Ataullah Tarar submitted a request to the deputy commissioner Lahore for their immediate release on parole for two weeks to attend the funeral.
According to reports, on the arrival of the body in Pakistan, funeral prayers will be offered at Sharif Medical City and the burial will be alongside Mian Muhammad Sharif’s grave in Jati Umrah.
Begum Shamim Akhtar had passed away in London on Sunday. She had left for London in February to be with Nawaz Sharif who was there for medical treatment since late last year. According to PML-N leaders, she was almost 90 years old and seriously ill for the past several months.
