Another burden on public: K-Electric includes KMC taxes in bills

ISLAMABAD: The government has increased the electricity tariff for the consumers of K-electric, a company supplying electricity to Karachi.

According to the notification, the tariff of K-electric has been increased from Rs 9.9 paise to Rs 2.89 paise. After the tariff hike, The tariff has become equal to that of other power companies.

It may be recalled that the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority had approved the tariff hike for K Electric. Last week, the NEPRA increased electricity prices by 83 paise per unit.

According to NEPRA officials, the increase in electricity prices was in the form of monthly fuel adjustment, which will be applicable to consumers’ bills from October and will impose an additional burden of more than Rs 10 billion on consumers this month.

NEPRA officials said that the increase in electricity prices would be applicable to all consumers besides Lifeline. The increase was made in the context of the July 2020 adjustment.

NEPRA had issued a notification to increase electricity prices. It may be recalled that at the end of last month, NEPRA had approved to increase the price of electricity for consumers by Rs 1.62 paise. According to sources, the decision to increase was issued for the period from October 2019 to March 2020.
