KARACHI: Five people, including two children, were attacked by stray dogs in different areas of the metropolis during the past 24 hours.
A three-year boy sustained severe wounds on his face after a stray dog mauled him in the Korangi area of the metropolis.
Separately, a five-year-old boy and his mother suffered injuries when they were attacked by stray dogs while going to a shop in the Malir area.
The boy identified as Zeshaan. They were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where doctors provided them the necessary treatment and allowed them to go home.
The children’s parents demanded the authorities concerned take immediate action against the increasing number of stray dogs in the area to save children and others from the dog bite.
The other persons, who sustained injuries in the stray dog attacks were also immediately shifted to Jinnah Hospital for medical treatment.
Executive Director Jinnah Postgraduate Medical College, Dr Seemi Jamali, said that all injured persons were given first aid and emergency treatment. The wounded persons have been provided anti-rabies vaccines, she added.
The menace of stray dogs has assumed alarming proportions in different areas of the metropolis, as a result of which cases of dog-bite have increased. In different areas, one can see stray dogs roaming freely on streets and main thoroughfares.
Stray dogs, including sick and seriously injured ones, also roam in and around busy commercial areas as well as parks and playgrounds, such as Empress Market, Tariq Road Commercial Area, Jama Cloth Market, Haidery Market and other areas of the city.
