KARACHI: A man lodged a complaint over a bounced cheque but the police have instead registered a case against the complainant and his family members.
A milk trader lodged a complaint at the Mominabad police station, Orangi Town, that a cheque worth nearly Rs1.6 million has bounced. The police officer did not lodge a complaint for over a week after which a fake case for robbery was lodged against the trader, his father and brother.
Waqas, a milk wholesaler and resident of Sector D5 Orangi Town, had a financial with Ayub Arain and his son Sajid, who owed them the amount and eventually agreed to give them nine cheques.
Waqas said the cheques had bounced and he lodged a complaint on 13th July but SHO Orangi Town Sarfaraz Baloch refused to register a case. He was assured that the case would be resolved and the money will be recovered to no avail.
Police raided the Waqas’ house after eight days and apprehended his elderly father Saleem Ghani and brother Muhammad Owais, while his business partner Akhtar Mairaj was also arrested. Police have registered a case for robbery under Section 395, while Qaqas was not arrested as he received pre-arrest bail.
In the complaint report submitted to SSP West, Waqas was supposed to receive Rs311,000 from a man named Niaz who lodged the robbery case. Niaz told police Waqas owed him Rs160,000 for a milk chiller.
The dispute was settled between Niaz and Waqas but police forced him to lodge a case and an FIR was registered on 21st July, alleging that Waqas and his five companions stole the milk chiller from his shop.
Waqas said that Niaz was an employee at Ayub Arain’s shop, whose cheque had bounced. He said that police were siding with the perpetrators and have registered a fake case against them.
