KARACHI: At least seven people, including two children, were electrocuted to death in rain-related incidents in different parts of the metropolis on Wednesday.
According to details, the metropolis experienced light rain on Wednesday in which six persons died of electrocution in different city areas.
Rescue sources said one of the incidents was reported on Karsaz Road where electricity wires fell on a 36-year-old motorcyclist, killing him on the spot.
The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained imminently and the body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center for medico-legal formalities.
Similarly, a laborer working at a house in Model Colony died after an electric wire fell on him. Another laborer in Karimabad was electrocuted while he was working near the Darul Islam Mosque. The rescue team said he died on the spot.
His body has been shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy. Three people lost their lives due to electrocution in Karachi’s Hijrat Colony. The bodies were shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for autopsies.
Rescue sources said two minor children received severe eclectic shocks from an electric wire on the rooftop of a house in the Muslim Town area. As a result, they died on the spot.
Meanwhile, as soon as light rain hit the city, electricity supply to many areas including Landhi, Malir, Baldia, Orangi Town, North Nazimabad, North Karachi, Surjani Town, Quaidabad, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and PECHS was disrupted. In some localities, people were without power for more than 12 hours.
