NEW YORK: Apple is considering to introduce a new feature that will enable users to unlock their iPhone while wearing a mask.
As lockdowns continue, and some countries mandate that people wear masks every time they leave their homes, opening smartphones has become a challenge. As a form of authentication, Face ID is a secure and convenient way to unlock your phone.
Apple’s new iOS 13.5 beta 3, released to developers last week, will make it easier to unlock your iPhone without having to take off your protective face mask.
According to details, Apple devices with Face ID will jump to the backup passcode-entry screen if it detects a mask. That is not only helpful if you are unlocking your phone but it also helps users to keep people safe by not forcing users to take off their masks, potentially exposing themselves to the virus.
The new beta also includes the first release of new software from Apple that will make it easier to build apps to notify people if they’ve been near somebody with COVID-19. Since this is still a beta, it may be a few more weeks until a final version launches with the feature enabled.
