MONTREAL: Canada has issued a notice warning citizens against the use of anti-malarial drugs chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine to treat coronavirus infections.
The Canadian health authorities have issued a notice on its website that states, “Chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine can have serious side effects. These drugs should be used only under the supervision of a physician.”
It further noted, “Health Canada is concerned that some people may be directly buying and using chloroquine or hydroxychloroquine to prevent or treat COVID-19.”
The move comes after United States President Donald Trump, in his briefing, suggested that scientists should investigate inserting the disinfectant, a cleaning agent, into a human body.
“Is there a way we can do something like that by injection, inside, or almost a cleaning?” he said. “It would be interesting to check that.” However, the health experts termed US President’s suggestion crazy and urged people not to drink or inject disinfectant.
Moreover, a leading disinfectant producer issued a strong warning not to use its products on the human body. Another European Medicines Agency declared a similar warning about the drugs, whose promise as a coronavirus treatment has been touted by US President Donald Trump.
