WASHINGTON: The global death toll from the novel coronavirus has jumped to 207,000, infecting more than 2.9 million people globally.
More than 2,994,958 declared cases have been registered in 210 countries. Of these cases, at least 878,955 are now considered recovered.
In the United States, nearly 987,322 cases were confirmed, including more than 55,415 deaths. The US reported an increase of 1,157 deaths in 24 hours. China has to date declared 4,633 deaths and 82,830 cases, with 77,474 recoveries
Italy, which recorded its first coronavirus death at the end of February, has 23,190 fatalities, with 415 people succumbing to the disease and 226,629 infections.
Spain has recorded 23,190 fatalities with 367 in a country declared 4,633 deaths and 82,830 cases, with 77,474 recoveries. France has reported 369 deaths in a single day, taking the tally to 22,856 deaths and 162,100 cases.
The United Kingdom has reported 768 deaths during the last 24 hours, 20,732 fatalities, and 152,840 infections. Meanwhile, the death toll is 5,710 in Iran as a confirmed number of cases is almost 90,481.
Turkey reported 110,130 coronavirus cases and 2,805 fatalities. Over 80,949 people have been infected while 747 people died of the virus in Russia.
In Belgium, 7,094 people succumbed to the disease while Brazil reported 4,286 deaths due to the coronavirus. India has reported 27,964 confirmed cases and 884 deaths from COVID-19.
According to details, most of the countries where the coronavirus cases are at peak declared a state of national emergency and lockdowns. Precautionary steps are being taken by governments in several countries across the world suffering from coronavirus.
