KARACHI: Lyari gangster and leader of the outlawed Peoples Amn Committee Uzair Baloch has reportedly been shifted to the Central Jail Karachi after the completion of a military trial against him.
According to sources, Uzair Baloch was produced before the Anti-Terrorism Court in the murder cases of notorious gangster Arshad Pappu and others. He was shifted to Karachi from Rawalpindi yesterday. The Anti-Terrorism Court has summoned witnesses against Uzair Baloch by April 22.
Arshad Pappu was brutally killed in March 2013 along with his brother Yasir Arafat and confident at the behest of Uzair Baloch over a rivalry. Their mutilated and defaced bodies were founded in a manhole in Lyari. Uzair Baloch and his accomplices have been absconding ever since. The murder case is under trial in the special court of the anti-terrorism complex in Karachi Central Jail.
It may be recalled that Rangers arrested Uzair Baloch on January 30, 2016. He confessed to committing a wide range of criminal activities such as murder, extortion, encroaching land, illegally occupying sugar mills, purchasing arms and terrorism. He is currently wanted in more than 54 different cases.
Uzair claimed that he was working at the behest of the Pakistan People Party (PPP) who held considerable sway in Lyari. The party has vehemently denied the accusation or having any connection with him. Uzair was detained by national institutions for military trials over treason, espionage on behalf of foreign intelligence agencies and terrorism.
In January, the Sindh High Court (SHC) had ordered to release a Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report formed to probe the criminal activities of Uzair Baloch. The report reportedly implicates high-ranking officials within the Sindh government and police.
