Federal govt appoints Mushtaq Mehr as new Sindh IGP

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has approved the appointed of Mushtaq Mehr as Sindh Inspector general of Police (IGP) today (Friday).
An official notification has been issued in this regard by the Establishment Division which states that Mehr, “a grade 22 officer serving as the inspector general of the Pakistan Railways police, has been transferred and posted as the provincial police officer, the government of Sindh, with immediate effect”.
Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information Firdous Ashiq Awan announced the appointment of Mushtaq Mehr on Twitter.

وفاقی کابینہ نے مشتاق مہر کو آئی جی سندھ تعینات کرنے کی منظوری دے دی۔ نئے آئی جی کی تعیناتی سندھ حکومت کے مطالبے اور گورنر کی مشاورت سے کی گئی ہے۔ امید کرتے ہیں نئے آئی جی سیاسی وابستگیوں سے بالاتر ہو کر سندھ میں امن وامان کے قیام اور جرائم کی بیخ کنی کو یقینی بنائیں گے۔

She said that the decision was made in light of Sindh government’s demand and after consultation with Sindh Governor Imran Ismail.
She hoped that the newly appointed IGP will perform his duties keeping aside political association and will ensure peace in the province.
Mushtaq Mehr was one of the five police officials recommend by the Sindh government for the post of Inspector General of Police. He will replace the incumbent IGP Kaleem Imam.
Earlier on January 27, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah requested Prime Minister Imran Khan to replace Imam during a one-on-one meeting with the premier.
