KARACHI: The Sindh government has reduced the wheat support price across the province from Rs5,000 to Rs4,500 per 40 kilograms, a move expected to bring down flour prices by Rs17 per kilogram.
Speaking at a press conference in Karachi, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the provincial government had decided to reduce the wheat price by Rs500 per 40 kilograms to provide relief to the public.
He said flour prices in the province had already been showing a downward trend and that the reduction in wheat prices was expected to provide further relief to consumers.
According to Sharjeel Memon, providing relief to people amid mounting inflationary pressures remains one of the Sindh government’s key priorities. The revised wheat price has been set as part of these efforts.
It is worth mentioning that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier announced a proposed wheat price of Rs4,500 per 40 kilograms for 2027. This is Rs1,000 higher than the price of Rs3,500 per 40 kilograms set for the previous year.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the proposed wheat price was determined after consultations. The Prime Minister appreciated Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for her suggestions and cooperation and also expressed gratitude to Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah for his role in the process.
The Prime Minister said the main objective behind increasing the wheat price was to protect farmers from the impact of rising production costs, increasing petroleum prices and overall inflation.
The initiative is also aimed at encouraging farmers to cultivate wheat and supporting the growth of the agricultural sector.
