ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued an important advisory urging married citizens to update their marital status in its records following marriage or Nikah.
According to a NADRA spokesperson, citizens should obtain a computerised Nikah Nama or marriage certificate from the relevant Union Council and ensure that their marital status is subsequently updated in NADRA’s database.
The authority says timely registration helps maintain accurate and up-to-date family records, potentially preventing administrative and documentation-related difficulties in the future.
What Benefits Can Citizens Get by Updating Their Marital Status?
According to NADRA officials, updating marital status promptly can help facilitate several legal and administrative processes, including:
Obtaining Child Registration Certificates (B-Forms) for children.
Processing identity cards (CNICs) for children and parents in a timely manner.
Avoiding potential complications during passport applications.
Obtaining a Family Registration Certificate (FRC) and succession certificates when required.
How Can You Update Your Marital Status?
NADRA offers citizens different options for updating their marital status.
1. Visit a NADRA Registration Centre
Citizens can visit their nearest NADRA Registration Centre with their computerised marriage certificate to request an update to their records.
2. Use the Pak Identity App
Citizens may also use NADRA’s official Pak Identity mobile application to access available online services from home, subject to the applicable requirements and eligibility criteria.
NADRA advises citizens to ensure that their marital details are accurately recorded to help maintain correct family information and facilitate future documentation procedures.
