LONDON: The UK is bracing for the arrival of Storm Austin, the first named storm of the current season, with strong winds and heavy rainfall forecast across southern England, the southwest and South Wales.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning, cautioning that wind speeds could reach 50 to 60 miles per hour in some areas, while gusts in exposed coastal locations could exceed 70 mph.
According to the forecast, Storm Austin could approach the southwest of the UK on Thursday before moving from west to east on Friday. Rainfall totals of between 20 and 30 millimetres are expected in affected areas.
Winds are forecast to gradually ease towards the end of Friday. However, unsettled conditions are likely to persist, with further rain expected in several parts of the country over the weekend and at the beginning of next week.
Authorities Urge Public to Stay Alert
In anticipation of the adverse weather, authorities have advised residents to keep up to date with the latest forecasts and official weather warnings. People have also been urged to check road conditions, rail services and other transport updates before setting out on their journeys.
Those travelling through exposed and coastal areas are advised to exercise particular caution as strong winds and heavy rain could affect travel conditions. Residents are encouraged to follow official safety advice and take appropriate precautions to minimise the potential impact of the storm.
