DERA ISMAIL KHAN: At least five people, including three government employees and two civilians, were killed in two separate attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Dera Ismail Khan district, while two police officers were injured.
Law enforcement agencies have cordoned off the affected areas and launched search operations to track down the attackers.
According to police officials, the first attack took place near the bypass within the jurisdiction of Saddar Police Station, where unidentified armed attackers lying in ambush opened indiscriminate fire on a mobile van of the Highway Police that was on patrol.
The attack killed the police mobile van’s driver on the spot, while two other officers, including the mobile unit’s in-charge, Subhan, sustained serious injuries.
Second Attack: FBR Officials Targeted at Petrol Station
The second incident took place at Bhatti Petrol Pump near Abhaya Wala Bridge, within the jurisdiction of University Police Station.
According to police, several officials of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) were present at the petrol station when the attackers suddenly opened fire.
Two FBR officials and two civilians were killed on the spot in the attack.
Security Forces Launch Search Operation
Following the two attacks, police and other security agencies immediately reached the crime scenes with heavy contingents.
The law enforcement agencies cordoned off the locations and collected evidence as part of the investigation. Strict security checkpoints have been established in adjoining areas, while raids are being conducted to apprehend the attackers.
Police officials said the scope of the investigation has been expanded to determine the motive behind the attacks and bring those responsible to justice.
