PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi has said that an emergency could be imposed if necessary to protect the province, adding that if such a situation arises, he would be capable of taking on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on his own.
Speaking to a private television channel, Kundi said that when conditions in a province deteriorate to a point where state intervention becomes necessary, the president, prime minister and other constitutional institutions have the authority to take appropriate action under the Constitution.
The KP governor criticised PTI leaders, alleging that they rely on rhetoric and make tall claims without adequate practical preparations. He claimed that some PTI leaders were either going into hiding or presenting themselves for arrest.
Kundi said he did not believe in making provocative statements or issuing threats, adding that he would deal with his political opponents when the situation actually reached the point of confrontation.
Kundi Questions PTI’s Long March
The governor also questioned PTI’s claims regarding its calls and planned long march, asking where the march was actually taking place.
He said that neither corner meetings nor banners were visible in Peshawar or other parts of the province. Kundi claimed that the PTI’s long-march campaign had so far resulted mainly in what he described as leaders going into hiding and presenting themselves for arrest.
He further challenged the PTI to cross Swabi, saying that the party was making many claims but appeared to lack a clear strategy.
Kundi alleged that the party was trying to buy time and avoid reaching Swabi, where the next phase of the planned march was expected to unfold. Reports have separately confirmed that Swabi was planned as a key staging point for the PTI’s October 4 march towards Islamabad.
