ISLAMABAD: The government has decided to take stringent security measures in the twin cities and surrounding areas ahead of a possible protest call by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), according to sources.
Sources said mobile phone and internet data services would be temporarily suspended in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Attock on September 26 and 27 as part of the security arrangements.
Suspension of Communication Services
According to the proposed arrangements, mobile phone and internet data services will remain temporarily unavailable in areas falling within the jurisdictions of Rawalpindi, the federal capital and Attock district during the two-day period.
High-Level Security Decision
Sources said an important security meeting was held a few days ago to review the overall law-and-order situation. During the meeting, various security measures were discussed, including the possible closure of key routes such as the Grand Trunk Road (GT Road) and motorways.
The suspension of telecommunications networks was also reportedly discussed as part of the security plan.
Reason Behind the Measures
According to sources, the proposed measures are aimed at addressing security concerns and potential law-and-order challenges that law-enforcement agencies may face during a possible sit-in or long march.
The authorities are expected to implement the measures as part of broader security arrangements to maintain law and order and manage the movement of protesters.
Citizens have been advised to plan their travel in advance for September 26 and 27 and make alternative arrangements for essential digital communication in case mobile and internet services are suspended.
