KARACHI: Police are reported to have arrested five suspects in injured condition following alleged encounters with street criminals in different parts of the metropolis, while one accused managed to escape during the operations.
In the first incident reported by the District Central Police spokesperson, Khurram son of Shahryar and Muhammad Saqib son of Abdul Samad were taken into custody in injured condition after an exchange with armed suspects near Liaquatabad Sokha Ground in Azam Nagar.
During the operation, police said two 30-bore pistols, four live rounds, a mobile phone, cash, and a red Honda 125 motorcycle were recovered from the suspects.
Officials further stated that the motorcycle found in Khurram’s possession had been snatched from the jurisdiction of Gulistan-e-Jauhar, with a case registered at the Gulistan-e-Jauhar police station.
Similarly, the mobile phone recovered from Muhammad Saqib was reportedly snatched during a robbery at an LPG gas shop in Liaquatabad, for which police records show a complaint already registered.
Police said multiple cases are also pending against both suspects in different police stations.
Following the encounter, three additional cases were reportedly registered at the Liaquatabad police station. The injured suspects were shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medical treatment.
Separately, the Supermarket Police said they exchanged fire with armed accused near Football Ground C-1 Area in Ilyas Goth, where Kashif son of Ashfaq was arrested in injured condition.
Police stated that a 30-bore pistol, a loaded magazine, and two live rounds were recovered from the arrested suspect. His accomplice, police said, escaped on a motorcycle.
In another action, the District East spokesperson reported that after an exchange of fire with robbers in Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 7, Akram Ghani son of Khair Ghani was arrested in injured condition.
Police said an illegal pistol, ammunition, and a motorcycle were recovered from him. The injured suspect was shifted to a hospital, and officials said his prior record is being verified.
Police also claimed that an exchange of fire occurred near the Bin Qasim Steel Mill bridge, where Irshad Ali son of Qurban Ali was arrested in injured condition, while his accomplice escaped.
Authorities said a pistol with rounds and a motorcycle were recovered from the suspect.
All arrested accused were provided medical assistance, while investigations are underway to confirm their involvement in related criminal cases across the respective police jurisdictions.
