KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed lower over the holiday-shortened trading week, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index shedding 1,325 points as investors remained cautious amid volatile trading and renewed selling pressure.

According to data available with MM News, the KSE-100 Index settled at 180,104 points, down 1,325 points from the previous week’s close.

The benchmark remained within a 2,568-point range during the week, touching a high of 182,347 points and a low of 179,778 points.

Trading activity remained robust despite the shorter week, with 3.41 billion shares changing hands at a total value of approximately Rs152 billion.

The market’s overall capitalisation declined by Rs107 billion during the week, falling to Rs20.13 trillion.

The week ended on a subdued note on Thursday, when the KSE-100 fell 206.60 points, or 0.11%, to 180,104.61 points, as selling pressure emerged after early gains.

Selling was witnessed across major sectors, including cement, commercial banks, fertiliser, oil marketing companies and power generation.

There was no trading on Friday due to the August 14 Independence Day holiday, leaving the market with four trading sessions during the week.

The weekly performance marked a reversal from the previous week’s strong rally, when the KSE-100 had gained more than 5,300 points, reflecting a shift towards profit-taking and cautious sentiment after the market’s sharp advance.
