LAHORE: Following the direct instructions of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic Punjab, Muhammad Waqas Nazir, traffic authorities have significantly intensified province-wide operations targeting the use of fake and non-standard fancy number plates.
The provincial crackdown has already yielded substantial results this year, with traffic police conducting more than 175,000 operations across Punjab. In the provincial capital of Lahore alone, law enforcement personnel have penalized over 42,000 vehicles and motorcycles for violating registration plate standards.
DIG Traffic Muhammad Waqas Nazir emphasized that a number plate serves as the primary identity of a vehicle, and any attempt to hide or alter this identity constitutes a serious legal offense. He reiterated that altering or tampering with official plates is strictly prohibited under the law, and instructed field officers to immediately halt any vehicles or motorcycles found displaying unauthorized variations.
To enhance enforcement, the DIG directed Chief Traffic Officers (CTOs) and District Traffic Officers (DTOs) to implement strategic measures to maximize the campaign’s efficacy. He specifically mandated the utilization of the Traffic One app to ensure swift, effective action against individuals using forged plates.
Urging the public to comply with provincial regulations, DIG Nazir advised citizens against risking their future through the installation of illegal or counterfeit plates. He stressed that motorists must exclusively use approved registration plates issued in accordance with the official guidelines of the Excise Department.
