Islamabad (June 18, 2026): In a first for the capital, authorities have launched a special mobile app called “Muhafiz Muharram” as part of tightened security arrangements for Muharram-ul-Haram, while also planning to use drones for digital surveillance over Imam Bargahs, majalis venues, and procession routes.

These measures were announced during a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi to review all security arrangements for the holy month.

Minister Naqvi directed officials to put in place a four-tier security cordon around sensitive sites and ordered strict checking at all entry and exit points. He also emphasized the need to stay in close touch with religious scholars and community leaders to help maintain peace and order during the processions and gatherings.

In a first for the capital, the government has rolled out a special mobile app called “Muhafiz Muharram.” Through this app, citizens can instantly report any suspicious person, unusual activity, or gaps in security arrangements. People will also be able to share live locations and images directly with authorities.

To make coordination even smoother, a central control room has been set up under the Safe City project.

These steps are part of a wider effort to ensure Muharram passes peacefully. Officials are hopeful that the combination of traditional security layers, drone monitoring, and public participation through the new app will help prevent any untoward incidents.

More details about the app and how citizens can use it are expected to be shared soon.
