MURREE: Police have arrested the driver who fled after a tragic tourist van accident in Murree earlier this week, officials said.

According to a spokesperson for the Motorway Police, the absconding driver of the tourist van was taken into custody following the incident and later handed over to police for further legal proceedings. A case has also been registered against him.

The spokesperson said the suspect was arrested from PIMS Hospital in Islamabad on the basis of secret information.

Earlier this week, a tourist van met with a fatal accident in Murree, resulting in the death of 10 passengers.

Deputy Commissioner Agha Zahid Abbas Shirazi had stated that the accident took place at Khajut on the Murree Expressway.

He said the ill-fated van was carrying 23 passengers from Multan, who had departed for Murree at around 2am. The vehicle reportedly lost control due to overspeeding and crashed into a roadside barrier, after which a fire broke out in the engine and the sliding door got jammed.

Further investigations are underway.
