ISLAMABAD: SSP Kainat Azhar has been appointed as the first-ever woman Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) of Islamabad Police, in a key administrative decision approved by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, officials said.
The appointment marks a historic first for the capital’s traffic police, with Kainat Azhar taking charge as CTO Islamabad. She has previously served in important field positions, including SSP Operations in Multan, and brings extensive operational experience to her new role.
Officials said the move is part of efforts to promote a more public-friendly, professional and efficient policing culture in the federal capital.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has directed police officials to adopt a softer public-facing approach and ensure improved behaviour and service delivery, particularly in traffic management and citizen facilitation.
He also instructed the traffic police to further strengthen performance standards and enhance public service delivery mechanisms. The initiative is aimed at improving institutional efficiency and encouraging greater representation of women officers in senior operational roles.
Authorities added that multiple development projects are underway to modernise Islamabad Police and upgrade facilities for officers and personnel, as part of efforts to transform the force into a model policing institution.
In addition, the interior minister has stressed improved training and capacity building for police officers through international cooperation agreements with various countries to align policing standards with global best practices.
