The controversy between actors Arslan Butt and Mamya Shajaffar has escalated after Butt shared a copy of a legal notice allegedly sent to his fellow actor over remarks made in a recent interview.
The notice stems from Shajaffar’s appearance on the YouTube talk show “Say It All with Iffat Omar”, where she described experiences on set that left her feeling “uncomfortable.”
In the interview released on May 21, Shajaffar referred to a co-star only as “Arsalan” and recounted multiple incidents in which his behavior allegedly made her uneasy, including inappropriate comments and physical gestures.
She later clarified on social media that she was not referring to her College Gate co-star Arslan Khan.
In her interview, Shajaffar also alleged repeated inappropriate remarks about her body and an incident involving unwanted physical contact on set, which she says she firmly resisted.
He was like, ‘Listen, you should really eat this and eat that. That will give you some weight here and there.’”
The actor said she told her co-star to “shut the fuck up”, which she said he did not take well.
The legal notice, however, claims Shajaffar’s statements amount to “false, baseless, malicious and defamatory” allegations of sexual harassment against Butt, causing him “serious reputational damage, mental distress and public embarrassment.”
It demands an immediate public retraction, apology on YouTube, and removal of the content. It also warns that failure to comply within 14 days will result in civil and criminal defamation proceedings.
