K-Electric has announced a large-scale planned maintenance shutdown across numerous areas of Karachi scheduled for May 17, 2027, as part of ongoing infrastructure maintenance and network improvement works.
According to the schedule issued by the power utility, electricity supply will remain suspended for several hours in multiple feeders across the city to facilitate technical maintenance aimed at improving system reliability and reducing unplanned outages.
The maintenance activity is expected to affect residential, commercial and industrial zones in different parts of Karachi from early morning until evening, with some feeders facing outages extending beyond normal working hours.
Areas likely to experience temporary power suspension include Aram Bagh, Manghopir Road, Nipa Pumping, Lyari Fire Brigade, Lady Dufferin, Lakhani Tower, Surjani Tel Exchange, Yousuf Goth, Ziauddin Hospital and several industrial and commercial feeders.

The schedule released by KE shows that most shutdowns will begin between 7am and 10am, with electricity restoration expected later in the evening depending on the feeder and maintenance requirements.
Industrial and business areas such as E.P.Z 01, E.P.Z 02, Indus Rayon, Habib Knit Wear, Railway Marshalling Yard and Platinum Pharma are also included in the maintenance plan, indicating possible operational disruptions for factories and commercial units during the shutdown period.
KE stated that the maintenance work forms part of its routine operational programme aimed at strengthening transmission and distribution infrastructure across the city. Utility officials generally advise consumers in affected areas to take necessary precautions and manage electricity usage accordingly during scheduled shutdown periods.
Hospitals, pumping stations and other sensitive installations listed in the maintenance schedule may also experience temporary interruptions; however, critical facilities typically arrange backup power systems to minimise disruption.
The announcement comes amid continued public concern in Karachi regarding electricity supply stability, particularly during periods of high temperatures and increased energy demand. Scheduled maintenance shutdowns are often carried out by KE to prevent unexpected technical faults and improve long-term network performance.
Consumers can access detailed feeder-wise timings through KE’s official communication channels and customer service platforms.
