Former Pakistan national badminton champion Pulwasha Bashir clinched the women’s singles title in the 35+ age group at the Canadian Masters tournament, defeating top seed Anna Rice of Canada in the final.
Pulwasha — who said the event drew more than 300 players from around the world — described the tournament as “an incredible experience,” noting the strong fields that included competitors from Indonesia, India, Canada and other nations.
In a social media post after the victory she wrote that stepping into her first Masters tournament marked “a new chapter” in her career and that winning among such high-level competition made the achievement “even more special.”
Despite moving into Masters competition, Pulwasha emphasized that her open-category career is not over, saying the transition “does not mean that my open category career is over” and that her “passion, hunger, and competitive spirit remain.” She added she is proud to have won the Canadian Masters Championship title.
Pulwasha used the post to thank individuals who supported her campaign, including Muqeet Rana for his encouragement and attention to details; coaches and mentors Tariq Wadood and Rizwan Azam; teammate Irene; and her husband and family, dedicating the victory to them. She also noted she remains active in coaching while continuing to pursue her own competitive goals.
