LAHORE – In a significant move to enhance economic development, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has established the Economic Transformation Committee (ETC), aimed at driving sector-specific growth throughout Punjab. This strategic initiative seeks to modernize the province’s economic framework and promote sustainable development.

According to reports gathered by MM News from multiple sources, an 11-member committee will be headed by Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, while the Finance Secretary will serve as the committee’s secretary. The establishment of the ETC highlights the provincial government’s proactive approach in identifying opportunities for economic rejuvenation at the district level.

Media reports indicate that the committee will employ comprehensive economic mapping to identify potential growth sectors and prioritize industries for establishing effective industry clusters. This localized focus aims to decentralize economic development efforts, ensuring that benefits reach various districts across the province.

The committee is also expected to set actionable indicators for its economic initiatives, along with short- and long-term timelines for implementation. Collaborations with private sector stakeholders will be central to this process, ensuring the proposed initiatives are feasible and impactful.

A pivotal aspect of the ETC’s mandate will be to launch skill development programs tailored to meet specific industry needs. By addressing skills gaps, these programs are designed to enhance employment opportunities and align local production with global markets.

Among the proposals under consideration is the creation of specialized industry hubs throughout Punjab. Notable locations include dairy production in Sahiwal, IT software development in Lahore, and clusters focused on garments and leather in Faisalabad. Additionally, Gujranwala will concentrate on surgical and sports goods, while Gujrat will focus on rice exports and appliance manufacturing.
