Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has inaugurated a major initiative to modernise public transport, introducing electric buses and a T-Cash card system.
The government aims to improve urban mobility, reduce pollution, and offer passengers a seamless cashless travel experience.
Under the electric bus scheme, 1,500 buses are being gradually deployed across Punjab. New buses have already started operating in cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, and Faisalabad since late 2025.
Recently, the Punjab Cabinet approved the purchase of an additional 1,000 buses to expand the network further.
Meanwhile, the T-Cash card system allows passengers to use a single rechargeable smart card across multiple mass transit services, including the Metro, Orange Line, Speedo, and electric buses.
The card can also function as a debit card for everyday transactions. Special cards are being provided for students, offering free or discounted travel.
Officials confirm that both projects are fully operational and being actively promoted.
These measures form part of a broader plan to modernise public transport, enhance passenger convenience, and promote sustainable urban mobility in Punjab’s major cities.
