The oath-taking ceremony of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s new Chief Minister will be held today at 4 p.m. at the Governor House, and the Governor House has informed the Chief Minister House accordingly.

According to details, Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had cut short his visit to Sindh and returned to Peshawar last night after the Peshawar High Court’s decision in order to administer the oath to the newly elected Chief Minister, Sohail Afridi.

The Peshawar High Court had ordered the Governor to administer the oath by 4 p.m. today, adding that if the Governor was unavailable, the Speaker of the Provincial Assembly would administer the oath instead.

The KP Speaker sent a letter to the Governor, stating that the court has ordered the Governor to administer the oath without delay; if the Governor fails to do so, the Speaker will have the authority to take the oath in his capacity as Speaker.

Governor Faisal Karim Kundi was in Karachi with Bilawal Bhutto, who directed him to go to Peshawar and comply with the court’s order.

On Monday, the opposition had approached the court regarding the election of the new Chief Minister, arguing that if Ali Amin Gandapur’s resignation had not been accepted, then Sohail Afridi’s election could not be valid — a stance also adopted by the Governor.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) had also moved the court, stating that Ali Amin had already resigned on the assembly floor, yet the Governor was refusing to administer the oath to the new Chief Minister. PTI requested the court to nominate someone to conduct the oath-taking ceremony.
