Salt Lake County, Utah — U.S. authorities have identified 22-year-old Tyler Robinson as the main suspect in the fatal shooting of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
Kirk, known as a founder of Turning Point USA, was shot on September 10, 2025, at Utah Valley University during a public event.
According to an inmate booking report and official statements, Robinson has been charged with aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, and felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assault occurred while Kirk was speaking on stage about gun control and crowd behavior. After the shooting, chaos ensued as attendees fled the scene. Kirk was struck in the neck and later died from his injuries.
Robinson was arrested without bail. Prosecutors intend to formally indict him in Utah County.
Authorities rejected earlier rumors about whether Robinson disparaged Kirk verbally in public before the attack. There is no verified proof he used specific slurs like “hateful” in private familial conversations.
