MULTAN: The labour department officials have fined about 100 shops on the charge of violating minimum wages act in Multan on Sunday.
Director Labour Department, Rana Jamshaid Farooq said the Punjab government had recommended Rs 17,500 per month (Rs 673.08/day) as minimum salary for the labourer. However, the shopkeepers were found paying fewer salaries to their workers.
He informed that secretary labour department Sarah Akram issued directions for taking serious action against violation of labourers wages act. He said the government is dedicated to make sure implementation on provision of recommended salaries.
Earlier, the labour inspectors checked nearly 700 shopkeepers, of which, about 100 shops were found violating the minimum salary limit of Rs 17,500.
He said that shopkeepers would be fined Rs 10,000 each. Jamshaid further said that wages of Rs 17,500 was for 26 working days. He maintained that Rs 673.08 was per day wages of workers. However, in the case of accommodation and transport facility, the deductions of Rs 217 and Rs 46 per month are allowed, he mentioned.
He said the department is also committed to dishearten child labour, adding that the shopkeepers were severely warned to stay away from child labour. He warned and said FIRs are being registered on violation of the Child Labour act.
