The Indian government has ordered a high alert in several states in anticipation of Pakistan’s retaliation following New Delhi’s cross-border strikes inside Pakistan.
Indian Home Minister Amit Shah convened a high-level security review meeting via video conference on Wednesday afternoon, as reported by The Indian ExpressThe session included participation from the Lieutenant Governors of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, as well as the chief ministers of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and West Bengal. A representative from the Sikkim government also attended.
During the meeting, Shah directed all states to ensure preparedness in accordance with the guidelines issued for an upcoming mock drill.
He stressed the importance of maintaining uninterrupted operations of essential services, including hospitals, emergency response units such as fire brigades, and the continuous supply of vital commodities.
Highlighting the need for heightened vigilance, the Home Minister called for strict monitoring of anti-national activities and propaganda on social and digital media platforms. He instructed state governments and central agencies to act swiftly and in coordination to curb the spread of misinformation and fear among the public. He also stressed the need to secure vulnerable locations and maintain robust communication channels at all times.
