Ammonia gas leak in Karachi leaves several unconscious

Several people lost consciousness due to an Ammonia gas leak. The leak occurred at a private company in the Docks area, affecting multiple individuals.

According to a report by national media, police reported that Ammonia gas leaked at a private company in the Docks, causing five workers, including both men and women, to fall unconscious. The affected individuals have been shifted to the hospital.

Rescue officials stated that several people lost consciousness due to the gas leak. Due to the continuous leakage, all employees have been evacuated from the factory. Police officials said that efforts are being made to control the gas leak. Ammonia gas is used in cold storage. A police force has been deployed in the area.

On the other hand, Incidents of cylinder blasts can inflict multi-system life-threatening injuries, causing loss of property as well as precious lives. Three years ago, 4 people were rendered unconscious while 15 others were seriously injured in an explosion due to a gas leakage in Hyderabad.

A typical cause of gas cylinder explosions is gas leakage from the cylinder, connections, regulators, or fittings. Leaking gas collects in a confined space, mixing with air within the flammable range, which can detonate the gas cylinder within seconds if a spark or ignition source is added.
