Prices have skyrocketed in Parachinar due to food shortages caused by the closure of roads for over four months while a fuel crisis has also arisen in the area.
Due to a shortage of essential commodities, tomatoes are being sold for Rs 700 per kg in Parachinar, while the prices of other vegetables have also crossed Rs 300 per kg, a private TVÂ channel reported on Tuesday.
Citizens said that petrol and diesel were being sold for Rs 1,000 per liter at various places in Upper Kurram, the report added. Due to the unavailability of fuel, public transport has been completely shut down, forcing people to walk from one place to another.
According to the Petrol Pump Association, more than two dozen petrol and diesel tankers have been stopped in Hangu for the past month, due to which fuel supply has been suspended.
On the other hand, to resolve the conflict, the parties have agreed to open the Tall Parachinar Road, which has been closed for more than 3 months, while also submitting the procedure for surrendering weapons.
