The tri-nation cricket series is starting today, and New Zealand has suffered a major setback before the first match against Pakistan as their key fast bowler has been injured.
According to a national media, New Zealand’s prominent fast bowler Lockie Ferguson, who was participating in the ILT20 League in the UAE, sustained a hamstring injury before the Champions Trophy and the first match of the tri-nation series. He was playing for Desert Vipers in the ILT20 League.
Following the hamstring injury, Ferguson’s participation in the tri-nation series has become uncertain. New Zealand officials are awaiting his medical report, after which a crucial decision is expected regarding his inclusion in the Champions Trophy squad.
During Qualifier 1, despite representing Desert Vipers, Ferguson could not complete his quota of four overs and was forced to leave the field limping due to the hamstring injury.
New Zealand head coach Gary Stead stated that they are waiting for Ferguson’s medical reports before making a final decision about his inclusion in the squad. He added that Ferguson’s absence would be a significant blow to the team. It is worth mentioning that after Tim Southee’s retirement, Lockie Ferguson’s role in the team has become even more important.
