Punjab Provincial Information Minister Azma Bokhari on Tuesday announced that a five-year strategy has been created to transition all transportation to electric vehicles.
According to a report by Pak Observer, speaking at a press conference in Lahore, she mentioned that the Chief Minister, during her recent trip, invited China to partner on transportation initiatives in Punjab. Approximately 700 electric buses will be acquired from China, with the first batch expected to arrive in Lahore shortly.
The minister noted that the Chief Minister has also authorized the Chinese firm, Jinko, to establish a solar plant in Punjab. More than 60 companies have shown interest in investment opportunities in Punjab, with some projects estimated at $500 million.
Azma remarked that Maryam Nawaz was the only Chief Minister in Pakistan’s history to receive Head of State protocol in China. She added that some individuals spent their entire terms waiting for a phone call. If the unrest caused by PTI is temporarily halted, Pakistan will advance further.
“The welcome she received in China caused PTI’s social media supporters ‘sleepless nights’,” she asserted. On the topic of security issues, the Minister stated that the Chief Minister has committed to ensuring the safety of Chinese investors and mentioned that Chinese firms will soon commence operations in Punjab.
Maryam Nawaz has also envisioned transforming Lahore into a modern smart city, which will soon rank among the most advanced cities worldwide. When addressing the salaries of Provincial Assembly members, Azma Bokhari clarified that salaries were raised in 2019. Ministers are required to pay a tax of Rs. 350,000.
She emphasized that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is not receiving a salary. Azma also mentioned that charging stations for electric bikes for students will soon be established in Lahore.
