There has been progress in the investigation into the tragic event in the Daska area of Sialkot, where a woman was killed by her aunt-in-law, the body was burned, and dismembered pieces were thrown into a drain.
According to initial investigations, Shabir Ahmed, an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police from Gujranwala, had married off his daughter Zara to Qadeer, her cousin, four years ago. Qadeer, who lives in Saudi Arabia, took Zara with him, but she frequently traveled back and forth to Pakistan. About two and a half years ago, Zara gave birth to a son, Shafay.
After the marriage, Qadeer started sending all his money to Zara’s account, which caused tension between Zara and her mother-in-law. The mother-in-law, Sughra, first tried to have Zara divorced by accusing her of immoral behavior. When that failed, she, along with her daughter Yasmeen, planned to murder Zara.
When Zara came to Pakistan a month and a half ago, mother and daughter enlisted the help of a relative, Naveed, in Lahore, promising to send him to Italy. The accused killed Zara by smothering her with a pillow, then dismembered her body. To conceal her identity, they burned her face.
The body was placed in five bags, which Naveed took back to Lahore. Meanwhile, Sughra, with the help of her daughter and grandson, disposed of the bags in a drain. Zara’s father reported his daughter as missing, and after interrogating Sughra’s grandson, the police uncovered the truth.
The police have completed the preliminary investigation of the tragic incident and arrested Zara’s mother-in-law, Yasmeen (the sister-in-law), Yasmeen’s son, and Naveed.
