PESHAWAR: Frustrated by prolonged power outages, residents of Peshawar attacked the Dilazak Grid Station in protest against the ongoing load shedding.
According to a report by Express News, angry protestors stormed the grid station during their demonstration. A spokesperson for the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) confirmed that over 800 protestors forcefully entered the facility.
The protestors disconnected the power supply from all feeders linked to the grid station, resulting in a large-scale blackout across many areas of Peshawar.
In addition to cutting off electricity, the protestors blocked the road in front of the grid station, further intensifying the protest. The majority of the demonstrators were from areas connected to Guluzai, Muhammad Zai, and Gul Bela feeders. PESCO explained that load management is implemented on these feeders due to high line losses—91% for Guluzai, 89% for Muhammad Zai, and over 75% for Gul Bela.
The protestors, however, complained of excessive load shedding, with outages lasting up to 20 hours on the Guluzai feeder and 16 hours on the Muhammad Zai feeder. They vowed to continue their protest until their demands are met by WAPDA officials.
