Kasim Khan, the son of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has taken a prominent role in supporting his father’s bid for the chancellorship at Oxford University.
His involvement has gained attention as protests against Imran Khan’s candidacy intensify at the university. According to the British newspaper Daily Mail, Oxford University has been inundated with emails and petitions oppo
sing Khan’s nomination, with critics labeling him as unsuitable for the role.
Despite the backlash, Kasim Khan has been vocal in his support. He recently shared an Instagram story that caught the eye of many on social media, where he expressed his strong backing for his father’s candidacy, stating, “Abba for chancellor – make it happen!” The post also included a link to an article from The Week, detailing Imran Khan’s nomination for the prestigious position.
Oxford University is expected to announce the official candidates for the chancellor position in October, with the election scheduled for October 28. This election will involve approximately 250,000 former students and staff, who will cast their votes online to determine the new chancellor. The individual elected to this role will serve a ten-year term.
Imran Khan, currently imprisoned in Adiala Jail, has formally submitted his application to contest the election. PTI leader Zulfi Bukhari confirmed Khan’s candidacy in a post on X (formerly Twitter), further highlighting the former prime minister’s continued political and public influence, even from behind bars.
