LAHORE: Ahsan Shah, a key suspect in the high-profile murder case of Ameer Balaj Tipu, was killed by his own accomplices while in police custody on Friday. The dramatic turn of events unfolded when Shah was being transported by the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) to Lahore’s Shadbagh area for evidence recovery.
Who Was Ahsan Shah?
Ahsan Shah was a close associate of Khawaja Tareef Gulshan, also known as Teefi Butt, a prime suspect in the murder of Ameer Balaj Tipu. Shah had been arrested in February 2024 along with Malik Sohail in connection with Tipu’s murder. According to police sources, Shah was involved in conducting surveillance on Tipu and providing critical information about his whereabouts to Teefi Butt. Shah was allegedly paid Rs50 million for his role in facilitating the murder.
What Was His Connection to the Balaj Tipu Murder?
Ameer Balaj Tipu, son of Arif Amir (alias Tipu Truckanwala), was murdered during a wedding ceremony on February 19, 2024. Tipu was shot dead by Muzaffar Hussain, a gunman hired by Teefi Butt, over a long-standing feud. Shah’s connection to the murder was crucial; he had allegedly provided Teefi Butt with information that enabled the murder to take place.
Shah’s role in the murder case was significant enough for police to involve him in the investigation. However, while being transported to Shadbagh for further evidence collection and to assist in arresting other suspects, Shah’s accomplices, including his brother Ali Raza, ambushed the police convoy. They opened fire in an attempt to rescue him. Shah was critically injured in the attack and died before reaching the hospital.
Ongoing Investigation
The murder of Ameer Balaj Tipu has been a complex case involving multiple suspects. Teefi Butt, along with his cousin Khawaja Aqeel (Gogi Butt), remains a central figure in the investigation. Teefi Butt is suspected to have fled abroad, while Gogi Butt is believed to be hiding within Pakistan. Amir Musab, Tipu’s younger brother, named both Teefi and Gogi in the FIR.
The police have been working to locate and apprehend the remaining suspects, with efforts including the issuance of red warrants and coordination with Interpol. The case has drawn significant attention due to its high-profile nature and the violent circumstances surrounding the murder and subsequent events.
