For the first time in history, a tragic suicide has been reported at a prominent religious madrassa (seminary) in Multan.
According to social media and various news outlets, a 13-year-old student from Balochistan allegedly took his own life by hanging himself from a ceiling fan in Jamia Khair Ul Madaris Multan.
Eyewitnesses stated that the student’s body was discovered hanging from the fan. The Delhi Gate police have since seized the body and sent it to Nishtar Hospital for a post-mortem examination. A fellow student mentioned that the young boy had been distressed for several days prior to the incident.
Reports indicate that a rubber pipe was found around his neck. The madrassa administration was reportedly informed of the situation several hours after it occurred, prompting a rapid response from police, rescue officials, and district administration personnel.
The student, identified as Abdul Qadeer from Balochistan, had allegedly been forced by his parents to attend the madrassa, despite his reluctance to study there. Last Tuesday, his family had brought him back to the madrassa after a holiday, but he had expressed a strong desire not to continue his education there.
His body was discovered around 8 a.m. on Thursday, hanging from the ceiling of a room adjacent to the bathrooms. Preliminary investigations by the Delhi Gate police suggest that it may be a suicide, but further inquiries are underway, and the true circumstances will only be clarified after the post-mortem results are released.
MM News attempted to contact a spokesperson for the Federation of Schools for a statement but received no response regarding the incident.
